About Kelly Simm

Kelly began gymnastics at the age of 6 years old at her local club, Dynamo School of Gymnastics. Not knowing anything about the sport, she worked hard as a young athlete alongside her coaches Keith and Debbie Richardson, before being selected onto the Great Britain team in 2010 at 16 years old.

After years of training, she had her first major breakthrough in 2014, being selected for the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, finishing on top as part of the gold medal winning England team. The years 2014 and 2015 went onto be very successful, winning English and British titles, Commonwealth Games Gold, and making both the 2014 and 2015 World Championship teams. Kelly made history with the team in 2015 winning Great Britain’s first team medal at a World Championships, as well as individually making history winning the World University games All Around Gold, just a few days after being flag bearer at the opening ceremony for the Great Britain team!

After this came two years of being troubled by injuries in both 2016 and 2017, with a back stress fracture and an ankle surgery. Kellys first major test of overcoming this type of setback proved to be successful, bouncing back to  have an exceptional 2018 becoming British All-Around Champion, British Bars Champion, winning Commonwealth Silver and Bronze medals, and making individual European and World Championship finals.

The following year continued a similar trend until the beam routine that secured Kelly the All-Around Silver at the British Championships was found to have been performed on three fractured metatarsals which she injured in the final apparatus warm up, and therefore had to forfeit the apparatus finals and the European Championships she had been previously selected for.

One COVID lockdown and a shoulder surgery later to repair a torn rotator cuff tendon, Kelly was shown to fight her way back once again in 2022 with new routines to help team England secure team Gold at her third Commonwealth Games in front of a home crowd in Birmingham.
